Saturday 23rd November 2024:

Buxton Dickensian Market

It's that time of year again! This years Dickensian Market took place on Saturday, 23 November, and as usual our Friends of Oignies stall was there in the Buxton Octagon, raising funds and promoting the the Twinning. Our new look stall for this year - L'Ancien Magasin de Curiosités - featured a French Christmas theme, with a selection of festive trinkets and confectioneries on sale, the majority of which had been imported from Northern France by the intrepid Bloomfields.

In spite of the extremely inclement weather on the day, which unfortunately caused a drop in visitors to the market this year, the stall turned over £216.11 of sales, which raised close to £140.00 of profit - a very tidy contribution to Association funds!

Merci beaucoup to all those who helped out on the stall or contributed items for sale.

Meanwhile on the other side of la Manche...

...in Oignies, our counterpart Association Les Amis de Buxton had their own stall at the town's annual Marché de Noël, which took place over last weekend, the 30th November/1st December. Items for sale here had more of an an English theme, with popular items such as breakfast tea and jars of marmalade, all of which had made the journey in the opposite direction to the merchandise for sale on our own stall!
